Book 1, Post 1
What Drew Me to This Book
I was drawn to My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem because of the author and the journey it depicts. Having a life on the road is something that has always piqued my interest. It is fascinating to meet people of different backgrounds and explore various places! I have always wanted to go on a road trip. I have never gotten the chance to yet, but I have travel abroad a few times. Traveling to Asia has been some of the most memorable experiences of my life. This book seems like it will show how Gloria Steinem became a more powerful and empathetic leader. I want to learn more about her unique journey. I desire to gain insight on how she grew the qualities that developed her into a world-class leader. I am drawn to also understanding the motivation and reasons that drove her to accomplish the feats that she did. Being able to see her formative years through her eyes would be a very engaging read. Finally, this book is about the mom of Christian Bale! I love Christian Bale, and so I am very intrigued to learn about his mother who probably played a large role in his life.
What I Think of the Book So Far
I haven’t got that far into the book. I mostly just have read the description and a few pages of the beginning. However, I am already excited and I think the book has some insightful connections to my life. I am still trying to figure out how to use my remaining years on this Earth. Right now I am exposed to pretty traditional career paths. In the business school at USC, most people go into some form of consulting, finance, or entrepreneurship. However, I seek to explore other options and untraditional paths. From what I have read so far, this book and the journey of Gloria Steinem seems very unique. Steinem’s career and legacy is very different than the careers that I have been exposed to thus far, and it seems this book will let me learn more about it. Also, perhaps reading the book will help me relate more with other cultures and understand the issues that face other minorities better. I seek to understand more about Gloria’s leadership style and the values that drove her. I’m still discovering who I am and what my role in society is. I’m also uncovering what my leadership style is and how I relate to other people. Through the interesting lens of Gloria Steinem’s younger years, I hope I can relate to my own leadership style. If there are interesting points or learning lessons, I will incorporate them into how I lead and interact with the people I know. All in all, I haven’t read too much of the book yet, but I can relate to a lot of what I have read so far, I look forward to finishing it!
