Why Taco Stands And Trucks Are Awesome
By Daniel LeungTaco stands around USC, such as Tacos Tamix and Taco Zone, are awesome. This may sound a little crazy, but I am a huge fan of them. These taco places are cheap, very accessible, and can help provide great memories. I cannot look back at my time at USC and imagine a great experience without good from these local joints. For those uninitiated, I will explain my love for these cheap taco spots around USC. It is no surprise that they are beloved by everyone from Trojan students to nearby neighborhood residents and their families!
Whenever you're hungry or need a pick-me-up, Tacos Tamix and Taco Zone are only one “Shryft” (a free USC-sponsored shared Lyft) ride away. With prices coming in at $2 per taco and no tax when you pay with cash, it’s hard to say no to a meal at these places. These joints are very affordable which is great when you are a college student on a tight budget. Also, the food tastes really good for the comparative cost! At Taco Zone, they fire roast the Al Pastor meat right in front of you and slice it up to put into your taco. You can really taste the flavor in every bite, plus they pair it with fresh pineapple to add a nice kick of citrus and zest. Beyond the cheap cost, these places are also very accessible. As I mentioned before, they are very close to campus so it isn’t too much trouble getting to them. They are also open pretty much every day of the week until around 2 am in the morning. The largest influx of customers usually comes late at night on weekends though. The times that they are available to make it super easy to get these tacos whenever you get late-night cravings.
Finally, beyond the price and accessibility factors, there is another component that makes these taco places so awesome. Something about the food and the experience of eating it pairs great with making memorable nights. I have had so many instances where I got food from these places after a party or as a late-night snack for a movie and simply ate good tacos with great people. These cheap but tasty tacos make everyone’s mood better. A lot of my most memorable late nights in the past semester have involved grabbing food from Taco Zone or Taco Tamix. When we go we often see other USC students there as well, and it’s a fun palace to meet new people. These taco places have grown to become joints that I am very fond of. If you haven’t gone, then I hope you go soon!
As a economics major I whole heartedly agree with the sentiment. The deal is insane for the quality, price and accessibility. Additionally I'm also a huge Al Pastor fan it is never a bad choice. I've never tried Tacos Tamix how would you say it compares to Taco Zone?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE tacos around USC, and Taco Zone is a must for anyone visiting. I have never tried Tacos Tamix, but after this recommendation, I definitely will! I also agree that one part about these taco places is that they create fun memories. They are fun to go to at night with friends, and I love trying new things when I go
ReplyDeleteI love the topic of your post. I absolutely love checking out the new taco trucks near USC and the little stands I see on streets like Vermont. I also love supporting small businesses where they put their time and utmost effort into making the yummiest food. I have great memories at some of these stands and trucks too and I agree its a great way to meet people that share the same love for tacos as you do!
ReplyDeleteThank you for making this post so I can find my next late night taco! I've been to Taco Zone but not Tacos Tamix so I will have to go and try it!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try either of these locations but after reading your post I will probably try now. Avenue 26 tacos in LA is pretty good too. I can see how one could easily form fond memories involving these taco joints.
ReplyDeleteI also love taco trucks and even though I haven't been to the ones around USC that often, I remember going a lot during high school and back home. I can completely agree that these spots are perfect places for great memories with friends!
